At Duino (Trieste) in the historical Castle of the Princes Della Torre e Tasso

The new castle of Duino is uncertainly dated about the year 1400, when the family Wallsee commanded the construction of a strong war building. Later on the Wallsee disappeared and the castle, after having been used as a prison for a while, became the abode of the Luogar and Hofer. Only about the end of 800 it became property of the Princes Thurn und Taxis. It hosts now the seat of the United World College and can be visited only exceptionally on invitation. Near the castle one can visit and dream of the Dama Bianca. According to the legend a lord of the castle had hove his spouse into the sea, but while falling down she had pleaded to God and before reaching the water was turned to stone becoming the white rock we can see today. A corner of refined elegance, free of disturbance but with city convenience close at hand.
